Editing is often equated with fixing what is wrong with a piece of writing. While I certainly edit for grammatical and punctuation errors, my cross-cultural background and extensive work with English language learners means that I view your voice as an asset to your writing. We need diversity within academia and the professional fields, so my goal in editing your work is to ensure that your voice heard, not recast it into something that it is not.
I specialize in academic genres, such as dissertations and theses or journal articles, but I also work with high-stakes documents, such as grants and university application materials.
Copyediting
Once you have completed your manuscript, I can go through your writing at the sentence level, making grammatical and mechanical corrections, correlating parts, and ensuring consistency in voice, clarity, and other aspects of style.
As part of copyediting your work, I can ensure that it conforms to the documentation and style expectations of major style guides. I am familiar with the following style guides: American Psychological Association (APA), Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS), and Modern Language Association (MLA). I can also work with an in-house style guide.
Proofreading
If your manuscript is already polished, then you can choose my proofreading service. I will look over your manuscript for consistency and conformity in punctuation, spelling, and capitalization. I will also remove typos, repeated words, and other inconsistencies that detract the reader from your message.
